Valleyfair’s newest ride, North Star, finished fourth in the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest for Best New Amusement Park Attraction.
North Star made its debut at Valleyfair in 2017. This 230-foot-tall Starflyer spins riders more than 20 stories above the ground. Seated in two-person chain-link swings that allows their feet to dangle, riders slowly begin rotating in a circular motion reaching speeds of up to 40 mph as the swings ascend and descend the tower.
“North Star has been such a great addition to our park,” General Manager, Brad Marcy, said, “It is a fantastic family ride and we are glad our guests and Season Passholders enjoy it as much as we do.”
North Star ranks as the second tallest ride in the park next to the 275-foot Power Tower. Its location positions North Star at the front of the park where, living up to its name, it serves as a beacon to guide and greet guests on their journey through the park. North Star is the only ride of this type in the upper Midwest.
Nominees for all categories are chosen by a panel of relevant experts which include a combination of editors from USA TODAY; editors from 10Best.com; relevant expert contributors; and sources for both these media and other Gannett properties. The 10Best are then determined through online voting during a four-week period.
Guests can ride North Star all season long in 2018 with a Gold Season Pass, on sale now at the lowest price of the year, or a free Pre-K Pass that provides children between three and five years of age with complimentary admission all season long. The gold pass provides unlimited access to Valleyfair and its Soak City Waterpark.
