Twin Cities Restaurants Coming to Valleyfair
Your favorite Twin Cities restaurants are coming to Valleyfair this year! Many of you know that way back in 2019, Valleyfair started hosting local restaurants out of our Depot Refreshments location located near the front of the park. Well, it’s 2021 now and we are not holding anything back. We have completed rebranded this building which will now be called Minnesota Eats.
Minnesota Eats will be home to a unique lineup of restaurants that are found right here in the Twin Cities, serving up your favorite local bites and beverages. Get ready for us to introduce our partners for the 2021 season!
JUNE – LUCKY'S 13
About Lucky’s 13
Charlie Burrows and Linda Young, opened the first Lucky’s 13 Pub in Mendota, Minnesota in 2007. Their goal? Create an elevated, but approachable neighborhood hangout. A family-friendly place with the best scratch-made food they could offer – along with crowd-pleasing entertainment like live music, bingo, and pull tabs. The idea was a huge hit! That single location rapidly expanded to seven, with locations in both Minnesota and North Dakota.
When Linda passed away in 2018, Charlie sold the restaurants, only to quickly miss the restaurants and staff that meant to so much to him. So, in early 2021 he teamed up with Stephan Hesse and Tyge Nelson, two well-known chefs and Twin Cities’ natives to buy the restaurants back!
Lucky’s currently has locations in Bloomington, Burnsville, Mendota, Plymouth, and Roseville, Minnesota, as well as Bismarck and Fargo, North Dakota!
“Lucky’s and Valleyfair are both committed to family, food and fun. So, teaming up with them to showcase some of our favorite menu items just makes so much sense. It’s simply a perfect pairing.” – Charlie Burrows, Founder, Lucky’s 13 Pub.
Lucky's 13 Menu
Lucky’s 13 will be serving up some of their most popular items at Valleyfair this season. Guests will be able to experience the one and only Lucky’s 13 burger, cooked to perfection and topped with sweet onion, cheddar cheese, peppadew, and bacon. A trip to Valleyfair’s Lucky’s 13 isn’t complete without a classic Monte Cristo - ham, turkey, Swiss cheese, strawberry jam, ciabatta bread, battered and fried. Calling all fish lovers? Be sure to try the Blackened Walleye Tacos - blackened walleye, flour tortillas, sweet chili super slaw, crispy corn tortilla chips, and salsa. Finally, another Lucky’s 13 special, the Clover Sandwich – savory roast beef with cheddar cheese.
JULY – ICEHOUSE
Icehouse is located in what was originally the loading docks to the old Cedar Fuel & Ice where over 75,000 tons of Ice were harvested each year. Later, the building became Icehouse studios where many audio and video recordings took place. The original brick and wood ceiling still remains and is incorporated into the design of Icehouse the restaurant, bar, and music venue. While they are not harvesting 75,000 tons, shooting videos nor recording albums, the space still remains true to the original industrial aesthetic and they honor their predecessors of the space by employing a unique take on classical food and drink recipes and keeping the music going.
Get ready. Get set. Dig in! The menu Icehouse is serving up to Valleyfair guests this season is sure to rock your tastebuds. The highlight of their menu holds their namesake, the Icehouse burger - double 3oz patty, American cheese, shaved onion, and pickles. Be sure to try the Pastrami sandwich - house-smoked pastrami, cheese, deli mustard, pickle served on sourdough rye. Next up, the Cubano - shaved ham, mojo pork, swiss cheese, deli mustard, and pickles. No stop to the Icehouse is complete Kung Pao Cauliflower – cauliflower covered in chili oil, peanuts, and green onions.
AUGUST – PAJARITO
Pajarito has been wowing the Twin Cities since late 2016, when long-time Twin Cities chefs Stephan Hesse and Tyge Nelson teamed up to open their first St. Paul location.
Per food critic and author, Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl, the two were already “local industry luminaries,” and diners were eager to see what they’d accomplish together. The anticipation was well deserved. Fans love their flavor-forward, technique-driven approach to modern Mexican fare. To the extent that Stephan and Tyge opened their second location in Edina in early 2020.
Stephan and Tyge’s refined take on a Mexican bistro, pushes the envelope on traditional fare with modern touches and fresh, vibrant flavors. The restaurant serves as a showcase for each chef’s individual strengths and passions. Tyge plays up his extensive knowledge of various Latin American and Mexican regional cuisines, while Stephan shines in his love of charcuterie and wood-grilled meats.
The result? Pajarito cleverly dances along the line of the familiar and surprising. Even seemingly simple dishes shine bright with flavor and nuance.
Many of you might remember that Pajarito made an appearance at Valleyfair in 2019 and we are so excited to welcome them back for the 2021 season! Be prepared to see the return of some of your favorite menu items and some new choices. Pajarito will be serving up their classic Carne Asada Torta - shaved beef, jalapeno cheese, rajas, and salsa roja. Feeling adventurous? Give the Pollo Tostada a try - pollo verde, black beans, queso fresco, crema, and lettuce. Last but certainly not least, Pajarito’s famous Chicken Milanese Torta - braised chicken, avocado, pickled red onion and black beans.
