Are Those Pets on Thrill Rides?

Kelsey Bailey

Kelsey joined the Valleyfair team in 2017 as PR and Communications Manager. She enjoys eating endless funnel cakes, riding Renegade multiple times a day, and telling all the wonderful stories about the inner workings of Valleyfair. Twitter: @kelseymegard.

The Twin Cities Amusement Park might not be open to homo sapiens at the moment, but that didn't stop us from bringing in some canine and feline friends to enjoy a day at Valleyfair.

Valleyfair has always been home to wild critters. We have raccoons that like to dig in dumpsters for sweet treats, stray cats that are cared for lovingly by our burly maintenance team, and ducks who enjoy the wildness of the Minnesota River near our Halloween Haunt mazes.

On special occasions, our full-time team will bring their domesticated furry friends to Valleyfair for some socialization and pet therapy. These critters are amusement park professionals. All have their favorite rides, foods, and coaster counts. Let us introduce you to the Valleyfair pet dream team!

Meet the fabulous pets of Valleyfair!

Porter - Beagle, 3 Years Old

Porter is a well-hopped and dark-spotted pooch just as her name implies. This pup loves to chow down on Pronto Pups (she tried but couldn't get tickets to the Minnesota State Fair drive-through experience, so if you have one, she is looking to purchase). Porter is a little tame when it comes to jumping into big thrills and only has a coaster count of two, Cosmic Coaster and Corkscrew. She prefers the smaller thrills Planet Snoopy offers. Her all-time favorite ride is Flying Ace Balloon Race.

Siggy - Maine Coon, 4 Years Old

Siggy is about as thrilled to be at Valleyfair as he looks in his photos. We promised this furry feline unlimited mice, but to his dismay, we forgot to mention that were metal mad mice. Siggy's day turned around once he was on the ride. He loves sitting outside of El Taco Mercado, savoring chips and guacamole with a cold margarita in paw. (Don't worry, he is old enough in cat years to enjoy a little tequila). Siggy has a sad coaster count of just one.

Stella - Gold Retriever, 9 Weeks Old

Where to begin with this adorable puppy? This trip to Valleyfair is Stella's first-ever public outing. She loves running around and looking at all the attractions in the park, smelling all the wonderful smells, and eating all of the flowers she can reach with her puppy paws. Stella didn't brave any coasters, but she loved hopping on rides in Planet Snoopy. Her favorite ride is Peanuts Road Rally.

Lula - Mix, 4 Years Old

Lula is so brave when it comes to tackling the biggest thrills the park has to offer. She starts every Valleyfair adventure at the tallest ride in the park, Power Tower. We think it is because she loves the heights, but there is a strong chance she just likes walking the bridge and seeing the ducks swimming below. Lula enjoys long walks around the park, and every workout ends with a reward of a funnel cake or two. Lula is our coaster count champion. She has been on all the coasters at Valleyfair, big and small.

Buxton, American Shorthair, 1 Year Old

Do you want to go fast? Do you want to go super fast? Well, Buxton does not like to go fast or super fast. He enjoys slow strolls around the park in his cat stroller. Buxton comes to Valleyfair for the live shows and stays for the delicious food. You can find him lounging at Breakers Bay Wave pool enjoying the sounds of Minnie & The Saint Pauls while working on his tan.

*No pets actually rode rides in the making of this blog post.
