How Different Waves in Breaker’s Bay Wave Pool are Generated

Have you ever ridden a wave at Breaker’s Bay Wave Pool and wondered how this is possible? Well, we are just as curious as you. We took a trip over to Soak City Waterpark to find out what gives our pool the splish and splash that we all love.
We met with Valleyfair’s Carpender Supervisor, Walt Sloboden, to learn more about the mechanics of our infamous wave pool! Walt takes us along to learn just how Breaker’s Bay Wave Pool, well, generates the waves.
“We can mechanically create waves with compressed air. It is two big blowers with 16-inch PVC pipe that blows the air into a case on, with flapper valves inside that change directions to create different waves,” explained Walt.
The machines behind the creation of fun can generate eight different types of waves. When hanging out in our wave pool, you will generally see two of these waves, the diamond wave and the straight roller.
When employees start up the blowers and air compressors to create the waves, they type in what wave they want, turn a key and start it right up. Pretty simple!
Soak City Waterpark provides three large filtration systems on site to ensure a clean pool for our guests. These filtration systems are capable of filtering the water down to two microns. A micron is a measurement of the cleanliness of water.
Breaker’s Bay Wave Pool holds 350,000 gallons of water, that is a lot of water. With the three filtration systems in place, all of the water can be filtered in one hour. Filtering this water includes disposing of sunscreen, oil off people's skins, etc.
