First-Ever Career Day Showcases a Variety of Career Paths

On June 1, 2022, Valleyfair’s Youth Events team hosted, Career Day, a day dedicated to educating students about the variety of career fields we obtain to make our park operate day to day.
Through this event, students and teachers get the opportunity to hear from various departments about how they came about to where they are today. The panel represents a wide range of fields such as Human Resources, Marketing, and numerous positions in Maintenace, from Carpenders, Facilities Maintenace, Ride Maintenace Foremans, Maintenace Supervisors, Paint and Water Departments, and more!
Each of these fields came about from a different path than the next, spreading across a range of education. We have employees who obtain a four-year degree, a two-year degree, Tech school, some college, and even simply a High School Diploma. The goal of Valleyfair Career Day is to show students that we welcome and encourage any level to begin their careers right here with us.
Throughout this seminar, panel members answer questions to help better allow attendees to understand their positions. Questions include along the lines of;
- Credentials
- How schooling affected their career direction
- Advice as students decide on their own post-high school education
- What students should consider while in high school to plan for their future
- What they enjoy about their job
- How their careers have adapted while technological advances submerged
- Why they chose Valleyfair as an employer
- What they enjoy about working at Valleyfair
As well as other details about working at Valleyfair, like responsibilities in the off-season, etc.
Panel members stressed the importance of the growth encouraged by Valleyfair for each and every one of our employees. Many of these employees climbed up the ladder in their field as Valleyfair encourages the drive to take the next step.
Valleyfair offers internships and apprenticeships in every department to teach those interested, in numerous skills. “There are many underlying opportunities, jobs branch out further to fit what you would like to learn.” panelists explained. Valleyfair interns and apprentices gain professional experience, resume boosters, and even the chance to receive a scholarship.
Students have the opportunity to ask panel members questions about their careers as well. Career Day is great exposure to attendees that there are so many career paths that often go unseen at Valleyfair. Valleyfair hires 1,600+ seasonal associates each year and there is always an opportunity for anyone that desires.
