Fair Carousel Rides at Valleyfair

Prepare to indulge your sense of nostalgia. This ride is a tradition for many families to enjoy together when they visit Valleyfair. Originally built in 1925 for the Excelsior Amusement Park located on Lake Minnetonka, the Carousel made its way to Valleyfair after the park closed. Climb on and grab the reins on one of the forty-eight antique horses or a select chariot seat before you embark on a whimsical journey. This ride even provides a great place to cool off in a shaded area for those scorching summer days.

Enjoy the charm of riding a genuine antique horse on this classic and timeless ride. A ride on the Carousel is undoubtedly a favorite for all ages. After all, riding a dazzling stallion is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone. Who doesn't remember their first ride on a carousel? Located near the entrance of the park, make sure to make this your first stop of the day.

Riders must be 46" tall to ride alone OR accompanied by a supervising companion. Handheld infants must ride in a chariot.

  • A carousel ride which features horses, both stationary and moving up and down, and chariot seating mounted on a circular platform that rotates. 

  • Children under 46" must be seated in a chariot or on the middle row of horses and be held by a supervising companion who is standing on the platform between horses. One rider per animal.

  • Guests must have the ability to straddle the ride unit. Guests unable to straddle the ride unit must be seated in a chariot unit.

  • Guests who do not have independent seated postural control, an appropriate center of gravity, ability to hold on with one functioning arm, or appropriate observed behavior must ride in a chariot with a supervising companion.

  • Guests with a full leg cast must be seated in a chariot.

  • Alternate Access is available at the ride exit. Riders will have to take several steps, on their own or with the assistance of a companion, and be capable of stepping up onto a platform. Service animals are permitted to ride on the ride platform or chariots.
